History

“History is the best guide to the future.”

At Moss Hey: we aim for our children to gain an understanding of the past, where we have come from and appreciate events, people, cultures and inventions that have reshaped our world.

At Moss Hey, our history curriculum helps us nurture curious, resilient and ambitious learners by giving children the knowledge and confidence to explore the past. We want pupils to understand how events and people have shaped Britain and the wider world, and to recognise how history influences their own lives today.

We aim for our pupils to enjoy learning about history. Alongside classroom learning, pupils take part in exciting experiences such as fieldwork, visiting workshops, handling artefacts and going on educational visits. These opportunities help bring the past to life and support children in building a clear sense of chronology.

Our curriculum encourages children to ask questions, think carefully and develop their own ideas. Through discussion and investigation, pupils build resilience as they deepen their understanding and make connections between different periods of history.

We also believe it is important for children to learn about significant individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. These role models inspire pupils, challenge stereotypes and show how determination and ambition can shape the world.

Through high-quality teaching and enriching experiences, our history curriculum helps children develop secure knowledge, a strong sense of identity and a lasting curiosity about the world around them.
